Subject: Request for Collaboration and Support for School Eye Health Screening and Spectacle Distribution Project
Dear friends
Warm greetings from president , the Rotary Club of Dillibazar–Kathmandu.
The Rotary Club of
Dillibazar–Kathmandu is pleased to share with you one of its flagship community
service initiatives for Rotary Year 2025–26: a School-Level Eye
Health Screening, Eye Camp, and Spectacle Distribution Project for children
studying in public schools.
Uncorrected vision problems among
children often go unnoticed and directly affect their learning ability,
confidence, and long-term quality of life. With this understanding, our club
designed this project to create early detection, timely treatment, and
sustainable impact among school-going children in comparatively underserved
areas of Kathmandu Valley.
Project
Overview
Project Duration: August 2025 – March 2026
The project covers 22 public
schools of Chandragiri Municipality, ensuring outreach to communities with
limited access to regular eye health services.
Phase
I: Orientation and Capacity Building (August 2025)
In the first phase, a one-day eye
screening orientation and training workshop was successfully conducted for 46
teachers and health workers from 22 schools.
- Technical support:
Matrika Eye Hospital, Baneshwor, Kathmandu
- School coordination:
Chandragiri Municipality
- Collaborating partners:
GMP Timilsina Foundation, Kalibhakta Foundation, Sahaj Foundation
Phase
II: School-Level Eye Screening (September – November 2025)
All 22 schools completed eye
screening programs at the school level.
A total of over 12,000 students were screened, and based on the
screening reports, approximately 1,500 students were identified with
potential eye problems.
According to the technical assessment
team of Matrika Eye Hospital, these students require further examination
through 7–8 comprehensive eye health camps.
Phase
III: Eye Health Camps (January – February 2026)
Considering ongoing school
examinations and winter holidays, the eye health camps will commence after a
short interval.
During this phase, 7–8 eye health camps will be organized to conduct
detailed eye examinations and finalize prescriptions.
Phase
IV: Spectacle Distribution (March 2026)
Spectacles will be prepared only
after detailed eye examinations and power confirmation.
All spectacles will be distributed to the students, and the project will be
formally completed by March 2026.
Budget
Requirement
Based on technical estimates:
- Out of 1,500 identified students, approximately
1,000–1,200 students will require spectacles.
- Including eye screening, orientation programs, eye
health camps, and spectacle preparation, the total estimated project
budget is NPR 800,000 – 900,000.
So far, funding has been secured for
approximately 500 pairs of spectacles only.
There remains a funding gap for 500–700 additional spectacles.
The technical team has strongly
recommended that funds for spectacles be secured prior to conducting eye
health camps to ensure timely and effective service delivery. Therefore, we
are actively seeking supportive partners and donors to help us move
forward.
