Rotary Club of Dillibazar Conducts Eyeglasses Distribution and Eye Health Camp Closing Program

The Rotary Club of Dillibazar successfully conducted an Eyeglasses Distribution and Eye Health Camp Closing Program for students identified with vision problems during an eye screening campaign carried out in Chandragiri Municipality.

The program was chaired by Rotary Club of Dillibazar President, Rotarian Prem Oli. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Ghanshyam Giri, Mayor of Chandragiri Municipality. Distinguished guests included Mrs. Basanti Shrestha, Deputy Mayor of Chandragiri Municipality; Mr. Shambhu Mahato, Head of the Municipal Health Department; Mr. Jhalak Sharma, Secretary of Chandragiri Hills; Dr. Parthibeshwor Timilsina, Chairperson of GMPT Foundation; Rotarian Hari Kafle from Sahaj Foundation; and Mr. Prakash Sharma Poudel, Head of B.P. Koirala Lions Centre for Ophthalmic Studies.



The event was also attended by Rotary Club of Dillibazar President-Elect Rotarian Sujita Adhikari, Secretary Rotarian Sandhya Rajbhandari, Past Presidents Rotarian Samjhana Pokharel, Rotarian Punya Prasad Poudel, Rotarian Yubaraj Adhikari, Rotarian Indira Poudel, and other club members.

Program Coordinator and Past President Rotarian Leelanath Sharma delivered the welcome address and provided an overview of the eye health camp and eyeglasses distribution project. During the program, Chief Guest Mr. Ghanshyam Giri handed over eyeglasses to the principals of 22 schools within Chandragiri Municipality for distribution to the students in need.

Speeches were delivered by Dr. Parthibeshwor Timilsina, Deputy Mayor Mrs. Basanti Shrestha, Mr. Jhalak Sharma, and Dr. Anand Sharma. The speakers highlighted the importance of the project in improving children's eye health and supporting their education.

Mayor Ghanshyam Giri appreciated the Rotary Club of Dillibazar for its contribution to the community and expressed his happiness that Chandragiri Municipality had the opportunity to collaborate in this important initiative. He thanked the club for its continuous service in the fields of health and education within the municipality.

Dr. Parthibeshwor Timilsina suggested that eye screening could be conducted regularly for newly enrolled students and that the Rotary Club could continue supporting students who require eyeglasses.

Dr. Anand Sharma stated that the eye health project could be documented as a research study and published nationally and internationally. He also announced that children identified through the camp who may require eye surgery in the future could receive free treatment through the B.P. Koirala Lions Centre.

In his remarks, Club President Rotarian Prem Oli thanked all individuals, organizations, and partners who directly or indirectly supported the eye health camp and eyeglasses distribution program. He noted that Chandragiri Municipality has become an important service area for the club and shared that several health, education, and community service projects had been successfully completed during the year. He also expressed the club’s commitment to expanding its work in education and health in the future.

On the occasion, the Rotary Club of Dillibazar presented Certificates of Appreciation to Chandragiri Municipality and Chandragiri Hills in recognition of their valuable support and cooperation. Mr. Jhalak Sharma, on behalf of Chandragiri Hills, also handed over a financial contribution cheque to Club President Rotarian Prem Oli to support the eyeglasses distribution project.

The program was moderated by Mr. Buddhi Bhatta, Head of the Education Department of Chandragiri Municipality.

Through this eye health camp, thousands of students studying in community schools of Chandragiri Municipality underwent eye examinations, and free eyeglasses were provided to those with vision problems. The project is expected to make a positive contribution to students’ educational performance and overall quality of life.

The organizers informed that the project was successfully implemented with the valuable support and collaboration of GMPT Foundation, Kalibhakt Foundation, Sahaj Foundation, Chandragiri Municipality, Chandragiri Hills, BP Koirala Lions Centre, Rotary Club of Mitcham (Adelaide), and Rotary Club of Caboolture (Brisbane). The Rotary Club of Dillibazar expressed its sincere gratitude to all partner organizations for their contribution to the success of the program.
